The road to victory at Paddington begins...

The AARU Development Squad began their preparation for the Australian Services Rugby Carnival with a spirited round of games against the Central Coast and Newcastle local teams.

The Women's Team played Central Coast in a game of 7's and won 27 to 7. The women were able to take the experience from the Inter-Brigade Competition and with a training session on Saturday turn this into an experienced effort using the full width of the paddock and speed out wide to dominate against Central Coast.

The Women's Team then played Newcastle in a game of 10's we lost 21-14. They were not intimidated by the size of the Newcastle girls and only lacked the exposure to the different style of rugby that is 10's football. A great hit out for the team with the majority only in their second week of playing Rugby Union.

The Men's Team played in 15's against central Coast which was a 19 all draw. The game was strongly contested and physical throughout, guidance from the coaching staff to not take penalty shots at goal but take the game forward to test us in both attack and defence was the plan. This was a great opportunity for the players from across the Army to come together with only one training session conducted prior to the game.

The games were played in great spirit and identified promising new talent, it was a successful start to the Army Rugby campaign 2013.
